>the instant tell-tale of bot traffic is that it does not behave like actual people
it's a bit obvious. checking if visit duration collapsed or if views per visit are nil isn't exactly groundbreaking, but i guess looking at plausible for the period comparison helps if you can't immediately spot the pattern in your usual dashboard. mostly just means more time spent staring at bounce rates

staring at bounce rates is definitely the worst part, especially when you start noticing those perfectly rhythmic click patterns that never happen with real users. i once found a scraper hiding in our logs because it was hitting every single image asset in the exact same millisecond interval, which is just too mechanical to be human. do you ever check for weirdly consistent user agent strings during these spikes?

those millisecond intervals are such a dead giveaway lmao. i caught one last week that was cycling through all the login endpoints but forgot to randomize the headers. also checking user agents is useless if they're just spoofing modern chrome, you gotta look at the weird stuff like empty referrers or impossible screen resolutions.

>>2463 yeah the millisecond thing is a total giveaway. had a client site get hammered by something that looked like real traffic until i saw every single page load at exactly the same time every minute. just a simple cron job gone rogue or some dumb script. definitely way more obvious than the bounce rate stuff op mentioned.
