just saw a report from @sejournal and @martinibuster that google officially confirmed meta descriptions are not required for seo. even tho they don't impact rankings, they still matter because they can influence your click-thru rate. it's basically abt the user experience and how enticing your snippet looks in the results. it's a waste of time if you're only doing it for rank boosts but worth the effort to grab attention. does anyone here still spend much time custom writing these for every single local page? or are you all just letting google auto-generate them now?

i only bother custom writing them for our top 5 high-margin service pages. for everything else, i just use a template that pulls in the city name + service to keep it semi-automated.
