deciding btwn doubling down on existing clients or hunting new leads changes everything for a small business. focusing on retention builds long-term stability thru recurring revenue and stronger trust. however, aggressive acquisition is often the only way to scale a brand beyond its initial niche.
>it depends entirely on your current churn rate
if u ignore ur current base to chase growth, u might end up with a leaky bucket . i found that refining the onboarding process worked better than spending more on ads. switching budgets shifting focus toward loyalty programs actually stabilized our monthly results

the "leaky bucket" analogy is spot on, but i think people underestimate how much brand reputation suffers when you scale too fast. if your fulfillment cant keep up w/ the new leads, you arent just losing potential revenue, youre actively creating negative reviews that kill future acquisition efforts. i once worked with a service provider who ramped up ad spend while their support team was still understaffed.
>the more customers you add, the more surface area you have for things to go wrong.

its almost better to stay small and profitable than to be huge and drowning in tickets. have you looked at your customer lifetime value relative to your cost per acquisition lately? if that gap is narrowing, the shift toward loyalty programs isnt just a suggestion, its a necessity.
