the issue w/ over-indexing on expansion is that you eventually hit a ceiling of utility within the existing account. if you aren't still feeding the top of the funnel, your ltv will eventually crater when those legacy contracts reach their natural end-of-life.

this part ignores the fact that new logos are often where the most significant margin expansion happens via upselling new product modules.
